Terms of use
ClassPing is a free timetable and reminder app built by one student. These are the rules for using it, written plainly, with the limits stated where you can actually find them.

1.Who runs ClassPing
ClassPing is an independent project built and operated by a student at the University of Southern Maine. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any university, college, or school, including any school whose calendar you import into it.
"ClassPing", "the app" and "the service" mean the website at classping.space, the installable web app, and the desktop builds. "I" and "me" mean the developer; "you" means you.
2.Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16. ClassPing is built for college and university students and is not designed or marketed for children.
If you are under the age where you can agree to a contract on your own, you need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms with you.
3.Your account
Accounts are handled by Clerk, using an email and password or a Google sign-in. I never see or store your password.
- Use a real email address you can actually receive mail at, since reminders and account recovery both go there.
- One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access to it, change your password immediately and tell me.
ClassPing stores a copy of your planner on the device you use it on, so it keeps working offline. If you sign in on a shared or public computer, sign out and clear the browser data when you are done.
4.ClassPing is free
Every feature is available to every signed-in account. There is no paid tier, no trial clock and no card on file. A few old strings in the code and in error messages still say "Pro", they are leftovers, not a gate.
I may introduce a paid tier one day. If I do, I will not start charging you for something you were already using without telling you first and giving you the chance to say no.
5.Reminders are best effort
Read this one
ClassPing is a planning aid, not an alarm system. Reminders can be late, can be delivered to a device you are not looking at, or can fail to arrive at all. Do not rely on ClassPing as your only reminder for anything that matters. Missing a class, a deadline, an exam or a submission window remains your responsibility.
That is not a disclaimer for the sake of it. It is how the delivery paths genuinely work:
- In-app reminders are scheduled by a timer in your browser. They only fire while a ClassPing tab is open. Close the tab, and nothing rings.
- Push notifications and emails are sent by scheduled jobs on my servers and then handed to your browser vendor's push service or to an email provider. Any of those can delay, drop, filter or refuse a message, and a phone in battery saver frequently does.
- Calendar export is the most reliable path, precisely because it stops being ClassPing's job. The .ics file hands recurring alarms to your phone's own calendar, which owns the alert from then on.
- Quiet hours and snooze do exactly what they say and will hold a reminder back. A pre-class alarm is the one thing that rings through quiet hours.
Reminders are also only as good as what you entered. A class with the wrong time, an imported deadline your school later moved, or a device with the wrong timezone will produce a reminder that is confidently wrong.
6.Grades and GPA are estimates
Not an academic record
The grades screen calculates a number from marks you typed in, using a grading scale you chose. It is a personal estimate. It is not a transcript, not an official grade, and not verified by anyone. Never use it to decide anything that depends on your real standing, eligibility, financial aid, whether to drop a course, without checking with your institution.
The two built-in scales are American. If your institution grades differently, the custom scale exists so you can enter your real bands, and a GPA computed against the wrong bands is not a rounding error, it is a different number.
7.Calendar feeds you import
ClassPing can fetch an .ics calendar feed from Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Google Classroom or anywhere else, and keep the link saved so you can press Refresh later.
Treat a feed link like a password
Most school calendar feed URLs contain a personal token, which means anyone holding the link can read that calendar. By saving one in ClassPing you are asking me to store it so Refresh can work. Only import a feed you are entitled to use, and remove it from Settings when you no longer want it stored.
What comes back from a feed belongs to whoever published it. ClassPing fetches it on your instruction, caps the size, refuses redirects and refuses links that point at private addresses. It does not check whether you were supposed to have the link, and it cannot vouch for whether the school's data is correct or current.
8.Your content stays yours
Your classes, tasks, notes, grades, timings and profile are yours. You keep every right you have in them.
To run the app I need a narrow permission: to store, back up, sync and display that content to you across your own devices, and to process it in order to send the reminders you asked for. That permission exists only to operate the service and ends when you delete the content or your account. I do not sell it, publish it, use it to train anything, or show it to anyone else.
9.What belongs to ClassPing
The app itself, the code, the name, the logo, the artwork and the design, is mine. You may use ClassPing as intended, and you may of course screenshot and talk about it. You may not copy it wholesale, resell it, present it as your own product, or strip the branding off and ship it.
Anything you send me through the feedback form is something I may act on, quote in a changelog, or use to improve the app, without owing you anything for it. Do not send me anything confidential through that form.
10.Fair use of the service
Do not do these things. They are the ones that actually cost me something:
- Create accounts automatically, or create them in bulk.
- Hammer the API, the import fetcher, the export routes or the feedback form, or use them as a proxy to reach somewhere else.
- Try to reach another account's data, or probe for a way to.
- Upload an avatar you do not have the rights to, or one that is illegal, hateful or sexual.
- Use ClassPing to break your institution's rules, including its academic integrity policy.
- Scrape, reverse engineer or automate the app beyond ordinary personal use.
Finding a security flaw and telling me about it privately is not a breach of this section. It is a favour, and I would rather hear about it than not.
11.Downtime, changes and endings
ClassPing is a free service run by one person. There is no uptime guarantee, no support commitment and no promised response time. Features can change or be removed, and the service can be suspended or discontinued.
If I ever shut ClassPing down, I will give notice on the site beforehand where I reasonably can, so you have time to export your data. Because the app is local-first, a copy of your planner already sits on your own device, and Settings can hand you a backup file at any time. Take one at the end of every term.
12.Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings. That removes your planner rows, your notification records, your uploaded avatar and your sign-in account itself. Your data is removed before the account is, and if a step cannot be completed the deletion stops and tells you which part did not finish, so you can retry it rather than being left guessing.
Deleting a single class, task, note or grade inside the app is recoverable for 30 days before it is gone for good. Backup files you exported live on your own disk and are not affected by anything I delete. The privacy policy sets out what is kept and for how long.
I may suspend or delete an account that is breaking section 10, that is being used to harm someone, or that I am required to remove. Where it is reasonable to do so, I will tell you first.
13.No warranty, and the liability limit
ClassPing is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. I do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, or that any reminder will be delivered.
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost marks, missed deadlines, missed classes, missed exams or academic consequences of any kind arising from your use of ClassPing.
My total liability to you for any claim relating to ClassPing is limited to the greater of the amount you paid me in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty US dollars. The app is free, so in practice that first figure is zero. Some places do not allow these exclusions, and where that is true of yours, they apply to you only as far as the law permits.
14.Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, USA, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maine. If you are a consumer somewhere with laws that give you rights you cannot sign away, nothing here removes them.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
15.Changes to these terms, and contact
I may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top always says when. If a change materially reduces what you get or expands what you agree to, I will flag it in the app rather than quietly swapping the page. Continuing to use ClassPing after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Questions, complaints, or a clause you think is unfair: use the feedback form. It reaches me directly.
