Getting started · Chapter One

A little setup.
A calmer semester.

Let’s get you settled into ClassPing. Start with your account, set your semester dates, then bring your classes into one familiar space.

Let’s begin

Three steps. Your own way to add classes.

Step one

Make yourself at home

Once you’re in, you’ll land on Today, the starting point for your classes and upcoming work.

Step two

Give your semester a start and finish

Open Settings and find the Semester card. Give your term a name, then choose Semester starts and Semester ends using your school’s dates.

Your dates save as you pick them. They tell ClassPing when to show your classes and help you see where you are in the term.

Open Settings
Settings → Semester · Example dates · Illustration

Step three

Bring your classes along

Type them in, bring a calendar, or start with your syllabi. Choose the route that works for you; you can always edit your classes later.

+Full customization

Add classes manually

On your empty Today timetable, choose Add a class manually. Enter each class’s name, days, times, room, and instructor, and choose its color. With classes already added, use Add above the timetable.

Import a calendar

Some school calendars let you download an .ics file, a calendar file that can contain class meetings and deadlines. Save it, then open Settings → Import from your school → Upload an .ics file. Review what ClassPing finds before adding it.

Link your Blackboard calendar

If your school provides a calendar feed link in Blackboard, copy it and paste it into Settings → Import from your school. Use the calendar feed link, rather than the address of your course page. Preview the results, then apply the items you want.

Calendar-link imports require ClassPing Pro. You can upload a downloaded .ics file without Pro.

CSVFrom your syllabi

Let your syllabi do the typing

Download the syllabus for every class. Upload them to an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, then paste the ClassPing prompt below into that same conversation to generate a schedule CSV.

Save the result as a .csv file. In Settings → Import from your school, choose Upload a schedule CSV. Check the class names, days, and times in the preview before adding them.

Get the prompt

Syllabi → CSV → ClassPing

Your schedule, without retyping it.

Copy this prompt and send it with your syllabi to your AI assistant. It describes the CSV format ClassPing expects. This prompt imports class meetings; add assignments separately.

The prompt
Convert my course syllabi into a CSV for ClassPing.

Output the CSV only, no explanation, no code fences.

Header row, exactly:
Course,Days,Start,End,Room,Instructor,Credits,Semester Start,Semester End

One row per meeting pattern:
- Course, the course name or code, e.g. Chem 204
- Days, letters only: M T W R (Thursday) F, combined, e.g. MWF or TR
- Start, End, clock times, e.g. 9:00 AM and 10:15 AM. End must be after Start.
- Room, Instructor, Credits, leave blank if the syllabus doesn't say
- Semester Start, Semester End, the term's first and last day as
  YYYY-MM-DD, repeated on every row

Rules:
- A course meeting at different times on different days gets one row per
pattern (lecture MWF 9:00 AM, lab W 2:00 PM = two rows).
- Skip assignments, exams, office hours, and anything without both a day
  and a time.
- Skip Saturday and Sunday meetings.
- Wrap any value containing a comma in double quotes.
